Let's Walk and Talk - Episode 2

In fact, often it was Cuba who was taking me for a walk. I am very

grateful for his ongoing concern for me. Once I fell over in the snow

and Cuba – who was usually lively and jumping around, discovering

things – came and looked at me with concern. His eyes looking at me

were so soulful and caring that I was so surprised that for a moment I

didn’t feel the pain anymore. A good companion to have fun with and

also in misfortune.

Cuba also started helping me with my projects. I wanted to publish a

friend’s poems and discussed every step with Cuba – he was the real

editor ! He didn’t just have ideas about the theme of the collection and

for the cover, but also gave clear directions for the timeline of doing

the layout, cover and uploading it to have the book printed. In this

way, the first book was ready for my friend’s birthday. A few more

poetry books followed, and finally a book with a poem for each day of

the year. Cuba insisted that this book had to be created as well, as it

was going to be more meaningful to readers, almost like a daily oracle

or companion. He said that these books were also preparing us for the

books the pets wanted to write with me. I kept talking with Cuba, even

when I was at home, in front of the computer, but we also talked on our

walks – we called it “Walk and Talk”. Usually we would talk “business”

at the beginning of the walk – about books, other animals, other life

questions – and then we would just walk and share a good time.

Cuba also helped me understand other animals, their issues and what

they needed. I just asked him – with my voice or telepathically – and

inside I either heard words or saw pictures, or got feelings or songs.

I could say it was like being on the phone with somebody, but actually,

he also sent me pictures or scenes from movies, so it was multi-

dimensional, especially as he would also send me a feeling or remind

me of an experience I had in a different context which would help me

understand the present situation. The closest I can compare it with is

when I’m talking with somebody where we are in the same place but

not looking at each other – a joyful understanding and easy

communication. Do you know the experience when you are together

with somebody and something happens around you - and you both

know what the other one is thinking ? I get that with my brother a lot.

That’s how it feels to me when I’m talking with Cuba – we just know.

Most conversations were started by me – I had a question or a problem

to solve and Cuba had an idea how to deal with it. Sometimes he

started talking with me – and one of these times was when he asked me

to write a book with him. He said that he would like to let people know

what it was like to be somebody’s pet – and that many pets would like

their families to know that their pets understand them too. One of the

main topics was that he wished that people would know, really know,

that their pets hear and understand everything their people say, that

they know what we feel and think and how much this affects them too.

Another topic was that he wished that people would see their pets as

equals, and how by doing this their whole relationship would shift to a

point where it transformed even the people themselves.

But the one thing Cuba stressed most was that he wanted us to realize

how much our pets love us. He wrote a love poem for his people to

give to them. I saw by their reaction that they received his love and

intention in that moment. Cuba said that many animals and parts of

nature would love to give their blessings and good wishes to people.

He said he hoped this would also show people how much they are

loved – even more than they loved themselves. This was certainly his

biggest wish: that people would learn to love themselves as much as

their pets loved them. According to him, this would make life so much

more fun and exciting – for the families and for their pets too.
