This letter is different. I wrote it at 3am because I couldn't sleep. Because last week I was walking my boys, thought I saw an ICE agent, and immediately turned around and walked home without saying a word to anyone. That silence sat in my body. It compounded.
Silence has a shelf life. And mine expired.
In this letter, I share what I've been learning — about the leaked ICE memo, about the people who have been killed, about the 5-year-old detained with his father. I share why this isn't politics. It's a consciousness issue.
If you grew up as the fixer, the one who held it all together, you might be feeling a strange guilt right now. Like you should be doing more. But you cannot regulate an entire nation's emotions. That was never your job.
What you CAN do is stay conscious. Stay informed. And refuse to look away.
We don't need to be experts to care. We don't need perfect language to speak. We don't need all the answers to stay informed. What we can do is learn. Together.
The world needs us conscious. Not comfortable.
