Part Lovely Bones, part Dogs of Babel, a series of letters tell Angel's story in her own words. Now deceased, the irrepressible golden retriever had been rescued from a shelter at an advanced age and given a second lease on life by author Martin Levin and his caretaker, Paula Drost. Angel's letters about her life and adventures with Levin and Drost evidence their unconditional love for her and impart precious lessons about life she was able to learn along the way because of their intervention. Levin's first book introducing Angel, All I Know About Management I Learned From My Dog, was licensed in six countries for translation months before publication.
Editorial Reviews:
A heartwarming series of posthumous reflections from a golden retriever mix who got a new lease on life (literally) after being adopted at age nine by writer Martin Levin and his caretaker. By turns sweet, sad, funny, and reflective, these letters cover everything from the excitement of Angel's adoption to the terrors of airplane travel and the inevitability of old age and weight gain. Performer Susan McInerney ably takes on the change of narrating as a dog, while George Backman provides a moving postcript as Levin.

great book
makes you think about your pets in a different way. Heart warming and sad at the same time. Worth your time.
A Beautiful Angel
"In a heartwarming and sometimes heart wrenching book, Martin Levin, becomes the conduit for a shelter dog named Angel to write her story. Although you know the ending from the dedication, "For those who own a dog, love a dog, or have lost a dog," it doesn't take away from the empathy you have for Angel and the sympathy you have for Mr. Levin and Paula when the time comes for Angel. Angel has the reader laughing on one page, being reflective on the next, and sad on the next. As I read the last sentence my 12 year-old dog was licking my tears and, like it or not, he got hugged and hugged and hugged." - Lynda Fisher, Two Ears and a Tail
Cute Book
"Letters from Angel" is a cute book written from the dog's point of view. It is about the bond between a Sr. dog that was adopted from a shelter by a 90-yr-old man for companionship after his wife died. It is a very quick read and even though it has a sad ending, the author shares his experience of having to put down his dog in a sweet way. The dog is a Golden Retriever/Chow mix that won my heart. I think any dog owner relate to this book.
Heartfelt story
"The tender writing, and the emotions that Angel expresses so naturally, show how dogs love, and why we need to treat them with respect. This heartfelt story and gentle artwork resonates, and I believe every word is an expression of what Angel truly felt. Dogs are wise and we can learn a lot from them. Thank you, Mr. Levin, for allowing us into the mind of Angel and learning from her life's lessons." --Roseann Lentin
Great Dog Story Told by the Dog
"Letters from Angel" is told by Angel, a senior dog who tells about his life with Mr. Levin and his aid, Paula. It's a great story that Angel tells very well. It is short but well worth reading. Any dog love will love it just like I did! Have some tissues handy, just in case.
