The apostle Paul lived an incredibly exciting, adventurous, dangerous existence, and his life also qualified as the most fulfilling life possible. That’s why we still feel the impact of his work some two thousand years later. The apostle Paul never knew a dull day, because his aim was to introduce as many people as possible to Jesus Christ. He also faced considerable danger. He was in prison, beaten, and shipwrecked. He was chased by bandits, his own people, the government. He faced hunger, thirst, and fatigue. But he never stopped introducing people to Jesus.
Adventures often come at a cost, like stepping out of our comfort zone and becoming a friend with someone who may stress us out. The love of Christ should compel us to let go of the comfortable and take a risk for Jesus because people’s eternal destiny depends on it.
We are all called to give up our comforts for the gospel. As Paul says, “I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.” We sacrifice so that we and others may gain Christ. It might be hard to let go, but the tradeoff has eternal ramifications. It can bring people in our world to Jesus. Think of it!
