Some of you are clinging on so hard to something to stay in stagnant water, it doesn’t matter what changes around you, you won’t let go and let things really change. I keep picturing the water starting to rush by and yet someone is grabbing onto a tree branch or tree trunk and holding on for dear life. I understand that you don't know where you are about to go but the safety of the cesspool of stagnant water is a flat-out lie. It isn't as safe as it looks. You may fear it can't get better or that it could get worse, but that is a lie from the enemy to keep you stuck. Just let go.
1) Deal with your doubt
Know your worth- Psalm 139:13-14, Zephaniah 3:17
Know where you belong- Galatians 2:20, Psalm 100:3, Matthew 18:10-14
Psalm 86:10-12,Psalm 46:10
Don't doubt that he can care for your needs- Psalm 23:1, John 10:11
If you are doubting your ability to do hard things, remind yourself you aren't alone and God is with you. - Psalm 46:1, Philippians 4:13
2) Stop trusting in the wrong things
One thing that happens when we have a clear direction guided by the Holy Spirit and the confidence that it’s God's will is we don’t quit before we reach the peak of the mountain. Ever been a little lost hiking and can’t decide if you are super close or so far off track that you would be better off turning around. It’s a really tough spot to be in and it’s where we land all the time when we are trusting in our old will's guidance and leaning on God.
The holy spirit does guide us and it is hard to really explain how it works but if you haven't tried before, I would proceed this way:
Prayer - reflect on all the times he has taken care of you, and thank him for all he has already done. Then, lay your problem, decision, or whatever at his feet and pray for his will and your peace in whatever that is. Maybe also pray for clear guidance and patience. Rest in stillness and quiet for a bit.
Read the bible and maybe even try without looking things up, just where ever you happen to be regularly reading or if you are not regularly reading just sort of open the bible and start reading where ever it opens. If that still doesn't work, you can try to look up topics but I am always cautious there because I don't want to insert my will in his word.
Keep listening to pastors you trust, audio books by authors you trust (or read) and other Christian mentors.
3) Stop caring too much about other people's opinions - Proverbs 29:25, Galatians 1:10
4) Holding onto past hurts
5) Holding onto feelings - 2 Corinthians 10:5, Ephesians 4:26-47
Practice saying, my reactions are in my control. My feelings don't have to be dictated by outcomes. I am a child of God.
Other things that can help you finally let go and get out of that stagnant water.
