One of Lewis County's historical landmarks celebrated its bicentennial this month. Constable Hall, in Constableville, was built just after the War of 1812 by William Constable, Jr.

He was the son of William Sr. a wealthy New York City merchant who owned over three-million acres of Northern New York, and was responsible for beginning the development of the entire region.

Perched on the edge of the Tug Hill, the Federal style limestone building overlooks the Black River Valley and the Adirondack Mountains.
