The Opening Days concluded with the official opening of the Leuphana Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS) in Culture and Society on 8 June. Sascha Spoun situated LIAS in the overall strategic context of the university. Erich Hörl and Susanne Leeb, co-directors of LIAS, presented the main features of the LIAS research programme along the central concepts of "potentialisation" and "thinking across hemispheres".
Initial workshop reports provided insight into the work and its impact: Lydia Radoli reported on the first "LIAS Interventions: In Media" in connection with her research project "The Visual Witnessing of Trauma Phenomena Among Journalists: An Analysis of Various Media Images from East Africa". In it, she explores the consequences and conditions of trauma among visual and film journalists. The workshop brought invited journalists into an in-depth discussion with the latest research.
Advisory Board member Alain Pottage reported on the afternoon's student barcamp with Senior Fellow Radha d'Souza, which focused on her thesis that the causes of the climate crisis are to be found in the legal basis of companies as 'corporations'.
