  • Open Up to New Ways of Seeing and Experiencing Ourselves and the World – Ep 640

Guest, Author and Meditation Teacher, Jonathan Masters on The LIFE CHANGES Show Ep 640 Titled, “Open Up to New Ways of Seeing and Experiencing Ourselves and the World”

This Episode Features Guest: JONATHAN MASTERS; and Musical Guest: MARCUS G. MILLER

    JONATHAN MASTERS

Jonathan grew up in Concord, Massachusetts. For Masters, the backdrop of history was never far away, as Concord was home to the start of the American Revolution, Walden Pond, David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott and Ralph Waldo Emerson. His family enjoyed a semi-rural life and a dramatic changing of the seasons. From the backyard, Jonathan, his Dad and his telescope could often be found there gazing at the clear night sky.

His physicist dad played Dixieland music, and loved of classic and contemporary cars. One of Jonathan’s early memories was seeing the first ruby laser – (which filled a room) – shoot a coherent beam of red light onto a piece of paper. For Jonathan, it sparked a life-long quest to understand the nature of life and the universe.

After graduating with an MBA from Northwestern and a stint in NYC in consulting, Jonathan lived in a spiritual community in Fairfield, Iowa for several years, and meditated in the golden domes twice a day. There, he worked with a master healer – who carried the vibration of Madhu-chhandas, or embodiment of bliss. As he began working with her and with the principles of Right Use of Will, Masters says “My understanding and experience of reality was expanding quickly – and limiting, mostly unconscious beliefs, or samskaras, were being dissolved. This included beliefs that; we couldn’t be or live as we want, we limit ourselves for a reason, and we really don’t deserve or know how to use our power. My experience was that essential elements of myself were brought back, including learning how to bring them back. These experiences gave me a sense of integrated, expanding wholeness that really is the basis for the book.”

God Has Infinite Frequency: Aphorisms for Our Fractured Age has also had its own process of evolution and refinement, finally arriving in the current form. Blending art and insight, this beautifully crafted book takes us on a tour of many of our dearly held beliefs – challenging them, and giving us the precious opportunity to reconsider, feel, and to see things anew. Jonathan says of the book:

I feel like the steward of this book as much as its author, and although I am a fairly private person, let me share a perspective. We all have inward and outward journeys, and for me, the book is a meeting point between the two. The markers of my inward journey include learning and teaching meditation, being under the guidance of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Right Use of Will, and working with other people and guides to expand awareness and develop inner light and stability. My outward journey is perhaps more traditional; husband, father, entrepreneur, inventor, amateur musician, professional consultant. But I also want to tell you, dear reader, that the story of me is deeply embedded in the story of us. The beginning of Earth as a crystal planet – from light and rocks to flowing life – and the long journey to now. And of course, the many times we tried. Tried to heal, tried to find balance and connection with ourselves and with love – tried to come to the point of silence and knowing within ourselves and our community. And how we seemed, so often, to be set back by our own limitations and fragmentation. And yet – how we emerged each time – maybe more condensed, but also more humble and grounded and wise,

  • Auschwitz Survivor and Penniless Immigrant to Being Unstoppable – Ep. 637

“Auschwitz Survivor and Penniless Immigrant to Being Unstoppable,” with Guest, Banker–turned–Singer, Reality TV Celebrity, Social Activist, Ivan Wilzig, and Guest, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, Championship-Winning Race Car Driver, Restaurateur, Alan Wilzig; and Musical Guest, Acclaimed Cantor Mo Glazman on The LIFE CHANGES Show Ep. 637

Guests: IVAN WILZIG and ALAN WILZIG; and Musical Guest: MO GLAZMAN

    IVAN WILZIG

Banker–turned–singer, reality TV celebrity and social activist Ivan Wilzig has led a life that Hollywood movies are made of; all of which ultimately ties back to his passion to see the world live in peace and harmony.

    IN THE BEGINNING

Born in Clifton, New Jersey (January 6, 1956), Ivan grew up with two siblings and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in European Intellectual History from the University of Pennsylvania and then later, he went on to earn a law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Rather than practicing law however, Ivan joined his father Siggi in running The Trust Company of New Jersey.

After more than twenty years working for his family’s multi-billion dollar commercial banking business, where he also sat on the Board of Directors, Ivan left the banking world behind to reinvent himself as recording artist “Sir Ivan”. His love for music and his passion for peace and equality translated into a very unique sound that ultimately led to him becoming a Top 10 Billboard-charting artist.

    THE RECORDING ARTIST

Sir Ivan’s journey began in 2000, when he played a demo tape for Dave Jurman, Senior Executive Director of Dance Music at Colombia Records. Dave was so impressed with Ivan’s talent and enthusiasm that he immediately introduced him to Ernie Lake, half of the two–time Grammy nominated producer team known as Soul Solution who produced Sir Ivan’s first single.

For that first single, Sir Ivan chose the iconic John Lennon song “Imagine”, as the lyrics and message closely mirrored his own beliefs of creating a world without violence and hatred. The reason these lyrics resonated so strongly with Ivan is because his father was an Auschwitz concentration camp survivor and 59 of their Jewish family members were murdered during the Holocaust.

“Imagine” was signed to Tommy Boy Records, by label founder Tom Silverman, and was released on September 4, 2001, exactly one week before the horrendous September 11th tragedy; where it broke into the Top 40 on the Billboard Club Play Chart.

It was the first time in history that a recording artist had converted the slow rock ballad into a high energy dance record. In fact, it was the first time that a recording artist remade any Beatles or John Lennon ballad into a dance record. Incredibly, thirty years after Lennon’s original release, Sir Ivan had made the song popular again for a whole new generation.

In 2011, Sir Ivan hit another milestone. After enjoying various degrees of success with other songs on the Billboard Charts, Sir Ivan finally got the recognition from the music industry he was seeking when, for the first time, he ranked in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Dance/Club Play chart with his hit single “Hare Krishna”, sharing the top 10 slots with superstar performers like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna.

After this monumental feat, the momentum never stopped.

  • Axe Kicking Your Way to Mental Health – Show 634

“Axe Kicking Your Way to Mental Health,” with Guest, Taekwondo Second Degree Black Belt, Health Professional, Author, Melanie Gibson; and Musical Guest Duo, Jessica Teixeira and Shauna Muhonen as “Forged,” on The LIFE CHANGES Show Ep 634

Guest: MELANIE GIBSON; and Musical Guests: JESSICA TEIXEIRA and SHAUNA MUHONEN as “FORGED”

    MELANIE GIBSON

Melanie Gibson began taekwondo training at age ten. At age twelve she stopped taekwondo to pursue other interests, and resumed training in her early thirties.

Although Melanie had academic and career achievements throughout her life, she struggled with mental illness and low self-esteem. After making some progress through psychiatric treatment and counseling, she knew she needed to do something more substantial to make lasting changes. Returning to taekwondo had always been in the back of her mind, and the timing was right.

Taekwondo proved to be not only an opportunity to re-learn a beloved skill from her childhood, but also a means to build her self-esteem and confidence, and heal from old wounds. It brought a needed excitement and purpose to her life, which she shares in her blog Little Black Belt (http://littleblackbelt.com). While continuing to work at her full-time job, Melanie dedicated herself to taekwondo training and earned her first degree black belt in 2015. In 2017, she earned her second degree black belt. Although a pandemic and knee injury sidelined her training in 2020, Melanie plans to return to taekwondo and test for her third degree black belt.

She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Texas Woman’s University, a Master of Library Science from the University of North Texas, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington. Melanie has worked in the healthcare industry since 2004, with roles as a hospital librarian, corporate trainer, and learning designer.

    ABOUT THE BOOK

Melanie Gibson was an independent woman with a good job, multiple college degrees, and a condo in the trendy part of Fort Worth. She also had a few mental illnesses, a minor substance abuse problem, and rotten relationship skills. She was nearing a total mental breakdown and needed a good kick in the pants, literally and metaphorically.

As a last desperate means to save her sanity, Melanie turned to a nearly forgotten childhood activity: the Korean martial art of taekwondo. To her surprise and delight, she discovered her childhood taekwondo instructors’ Grandmaster operated a taekwondo school a few miles from her home. She restarted her training as a white belt and quickly learned that taekwondo had much more to offer than just learning how to kick and punch.

In taekwondo, Melanie felt like she had a fresh start in more ways than one. She found an inner peace she’d never known before, a sense of community, a newfound confidence, healthy relationship stability, and a positive outlook on life. The kicking and screaming she was doing in class quieted the long-suffering kicking and screaming in her mind. Funny and frank, Kicking and Screaming: A Memoir of Madness and Martial Arts  is the story of Melanie’s life-changing journey from troubled, lost soul to confident taekwondo black belt.
