Let me share a thought here:
"Identity" does not necessarily have to do with roots or a unique personality. That was made more clear to me, when I threw in"c.i.z. identity politics" as the title of this year's free bandcamp compilation. And then you get tracks thrown at you that have ingredients like robots, "post war" societies based on combat, lines like "What is it? I'll do it", raps by puppets of oligarchs, "Toy House", abstract love songs, werewolves and so much more. Well: Identity is a group thing, but it's kinda liquid and you can't reduce it to stereotypes. Nobody owns it, and there is never only one. There are endless amounts of villages which educate us. Likewise: There is an "essence" to this collection, but it's not important. Richness in perception is.
And my basic thought was: We hide "them".
But that's not the point. Because "they" evolve.
There is no state of art. Or of people.
Cheers,
jko
