I recently found a magazine lying around my house. In it was an article that highlighted all of the famous people who died in 2018. The list was long. Actors, businesspeople, writers, musicians, athletes . . . I recognized many of the names, but some of them I hadn’t thought about in many years. All of these folks had been famous at one point. But they all had one thing in common: they still died.
Included in this list was Billy Graham. His short biography mentioned how he had shared the Gospel with hundreds of millions of people through tent revivals, festivals, and radio and television programs. Dr. Graham made such an impact on me when I was a young man, and he was always someone I deeply respected. When I heard of his death in February 2018, I felt momentarily sad but then overjoyed, because he was finally home. He lived well on this earth for 99 years, and then God called him home.
Billy Graham once said, “I intend to keep on going, preaching the Gospel, writing the Gospel as long as I have any breath. I hope my last word as I am dying … will be Jesus.” He was a man who preached the Word, was “ready, in and out of season,” and who fulfilled his ministry (2 Tim 4:5). As humans, death is inevitable, but how we spend our lives is up to us. Let us spend our lives like Billy Graham: spreading the Gospel of Jesus until our last breaths. Let’s reach our world for Christ!
