“All throughout our lives, we’re taught how to acquire. Material things, friendships, money. But what do we do when we experience loss?” Jay Westbrook
Over 26 years of running a thriving staffing agency, I’ve witnessed people through their experiences of loss. Loss comes in many forms: death, divorce, and even the loss of dreams. Personally, I’ve grieved my parents, beloved pet loss, divorce, and even the loss of identity when I sold my business in 2017. Today, as a Grief Recovery Specialist, my purpose is to help you regain a sense of happiness, freedom and purpose in life, hopefully beyond your wildest dreams.
In this episode, I talk with Jay Westbrook: an award-winning end-of-life clinician, Advanced Grief Specialist, sought after speaker, and author of Compassionate Journeys: Lessons From My Work with the Dying. Throughout our conversation, we define what grief is, how it impacts people differently, and how to start resolving that feeling of incompleteness that comes with loss. Jay vulnerably shares his personal experiences working with the dying, along with the experience of living alongside his wife as her life moved toward its ending as well. We also talk at length about various types of grief, including how the COVID-19 pandemic is inflicting unique grief on graduating high school seniors right now.
