Life Issues - Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide up 30% in Spain

New data from Spain shows euthanasia and assisted suicide deaths rose nearly 30 percent in a single year. But even more troubling is where this trend is headed. Spain’s Ministry of Health has openly considered expanding euthanasia to include mental illness, stating that people suffering psychologically could qualify for death on the same terms as those with physical disease. This is not compassion. It is surrender. 

We are already seeing this slippery slope elsewhere. In Victoria, Australia, assisted suicide eligibility was recently expanded, doubling the life-expectancy threshold just six years after legalization. What began as a so-called “last resort” quickly became broader and easier to access. 

When death is offered as treatment, vulnerable people are placed at risk. True care means providing hope, treatment, and support, not an early grave. Every human life has value, without exception.
