Originally from South Africa, Gordon S. Jackson is a retired journalism professor. He taught at Whitworth University, in Spokane, Wash., for 32 years. He did his undergraduate work in South Africa and did a master's in communication at Wheaton College before working as a journalist in Johannesburg for three years. He completed his doctorate--also in communication--in 1983, at Indiana University.
Be Thou My Vision: Light, Sight, and the Christian Faith is his thirteenth book. Besides a scholarly book on Christians and free expression, he has published a book on guidance and a collection of Christian satires. He has also published several anthologies of quotations. His first novel is due for release in June.
In retirement, he has busied himself with various writing projects and with working with non-profit organizations. He spent last fall volunteering as the interim principal at a small Christian school in Puebla, Mexico.
He is married to a South African, who helps keep his accent honest, he says. He and his wife have two adult children.
