🎙️ Life Prepared Me, But Jesus Refined Me
What’s going on, everybody? I’m your host Herb Hill, and welcome back to The Keep It Real Network, where we speak truth with no fluff, no compromise, and no sugar coating.
In this episode, I’m talking about life, pain, preparation, emotional healing, and how Jesus uses everything we go through to shape us for where we are now.
Looking back over my life at 36, almost 37, I can finally see that every heartbreak, every loss, every setback, every failure, every abandonment, every painful moment was preparing me for this very point in my life. At the time, it didn’t feel like preparation. It felt like pressure. It felt like confusion. It felt like survival.
But now I see it differently.
This episode is a real conversation about:
Growing up without emotional guidance
Processing grief after losing my father at 3 years old
Why unresolved pain doesn’t disappear — it just waits
The difference between avoiding pain and facing it
Why drugs, alcohol, and other escapes don’t heal anything
How Jesus doesn’t erase your past — He redeems it
Why I want my children to learn emotional understanding through truth, not trauma
Why life may prepare you, but only Jesus can refine, renew, restore, and rebirth you
đź“–Â Key Scriptures referenced in this episode:
Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV)
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
This is for anybody who’s been through pain.
Anybody who’s had to survive what should’ve broken them.
Anybody who’s realizing that what they went through wasn’t wasted.
Yes, life prepares you.
But Jesus is the one who refines you.
