In his sermon on "The Wisdom of Heaven," Pastor Brendan delves into James 3:13-18, examining the nature of true wisdom. He begins by differentiating between knowledge (accumulation of facts) and wisdom (the ability to apply knowledge properly). The pastor emphasizes that true wisdom comes from God and is characterized by good conduct and meekness.
Pastor Brendan contrasts false wisdom, which is earthly, unspiritual, and demonic, with true wisdom from above. He warns against bitter jealousy and selfish ambition, which lead to disorder and vile practices. Instead, he encourages believers to seek wisdom that is "first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere" (James 3:17).
The sermon concludes by highlighting the impact of true wisdom on the Christian community. Pastor Brendan stresses that those who make peace will sow a harvest of righteousness, urging believers to rely on God's wisdom and be peacemakers in their churches and communities. He reminds the audience that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ, as stated in John 3:16.
