Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” When we hear this quote, we must ask ourselves, how do we define “light” and “love”? The secular world has a bunch of different definitions for “light” and “love”. In fact, those words are thrown around carelessly. But the Bible defines “light” and “love” in one way – and that way is Jesus.
When we consider that Jesus is the only true source of pure and deep love, and the only real source of light, we are suddenly equipped to combat the darkness and hatred in this world with the divine resources of Jesus Christ. “The weapons of our warfare are…spiritual,” the Bible says. Psalm 27:1 in the Bible says, “The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” And Romans 5:8 in the Bible says, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
So remember that if you are a follower of Jesus, you are equipped with the light and love it takes to combat the darkness and hatred in this world. Be a champion for Jesus in the way that you live, and share the truth of the Good News with people in your life and in your world.
