Like a Tree by the Waters
“He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.”
— Psalm 1:3.
Imagine a tree standing in the middle of the desert. The sun burns hot, the ground is cracked, and everything around looks dry and lifeless. But that tree stands firm — green, strong, and full of life. What’s its secret? Its roots. They don’t depend on passing rain; they drink directly from a stream that never runs dry.
The psalmist says the righteous person is just like that: “a tree planted by the rivers of water.” It’s not just any tree — it’s planted. That means it’s there on purpose, not by accident. God Himself planted you where you are. He placed you there to bear fruit, to shine, to show that it is possible to stand tall even when everything around you seems to fall apart.
But here’s the thing: that tree can only survive because it stays close to the source. And that source is the Word of God. Many young people today are dry inside — full of anxiety, guilt, and confusion — because they’re feeding on things that don’t truly satisfy. Likes, popularity, distractions… all of it is like temporary rain that quickly disappears. Only the living water from God can keep your soul alive and strong.
And the verse says: “It brings forth its fruit in its season.” That means God has the right time for everything He planted in you to bloom. Maybe you feel stuck, like nothing is changing. But your season will come. In the meantime, stay connected to the source. Roots that grow deep in God never dry up.
Finally comes the promise: “Whatever he does shall prosper.” This isn’t about worldly success — it’s about purpose. Even when things don’t go your way, the righteous remain firm, because their strength doesn’t come from circumstances — it comes from the Lord.
