The movie effectively portrays Hawaiian culture and its tight-knit community. It also successfully positions Stitch as the main character in this humorous slapstick film. The lighthearted narrative is heartfelt, although the slapstick humor doesn't always land. Mala Kealoh shines in her first film role, alongside her fellow Hawaiian co-star Sydney Elizabeth Aqudong. The character of Nani is well-developed, as she fights against social service officials who aim to take her guardianship away unless she secures a better-paying job.
