The Civil War was a bloody, difficult time in American history. It’s a period of history that provides many leadership lessons. I think the leader of America during the Civil War was especially remarkable. Abraham Lincoln was a man of integrity, honor and faith. And I think he’s an inspiring leader. He once said, “Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right.” Isn’t that the truth?

As Christians we are followers of Christ. But some of us are also called to be leaders. As we follow Christ, He will give us the wisdom and insights necessary to effectively lead others. We need more Christ-followers to provide bold leadership, especially in troubled times like these. Times are as hard as ever, and we need more Christ-followers with honor, humility, and integrity to take responsibility for leading others well.

The Bible says in Luke, “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked" (Luke 12:48). Maybe God has given you talent, resources and gifts, and He wants you to use them to serve others in leadership. Go to God today and ask for direction as you reach your world. God used Abraham Lincoln to hold an entire nation together- just imagine how God might use you!
