A Linfield student has been hospitalized with symptoms consistent with meningitis.  Meningitis is a contagious, and can somtimes be a fatal neurological disease.   It can be spread through saliva, intimate contact, sneezing or sharing cigarettes or vaping devices.    The college newspaper identifies the student as Cody Oden.  

Oden is under treatment in the intensive care unit of Oregon Health Sciences University center in Portland.  He is a 2013 graduate from West Salem High school.

College and county health officials are not saying much this afternoon.  saying they are waiting for the outcome of tests. 

 

College officials conducted a campus screening from 11am to 3 this afternoon (wednesday) in the upper gym at the Health and Human Performance building.   The college is working on finding persons Oden may have had contact with

Students experiencing symptoms of nausea, vomiting, headache or fever are being asked to seek immediate medical attention from the student health center.
