Back at the start of the year when I was planning my First Of Month project, I planned to remix and release one of my favourite tracks by Linkin Park for August. Linkin Park has been one of the biggest inspiration to me and all of my music. Hybrid Theory, A Thousand Suns and Living Things being in my top favourite albums of all time. When I first heard the news about Chester Bennington’s passing, I was on the bus headed to my studio where I was planning to finish up my remix of their track, A Place For My Head. I gave it a lot of thought and halted my progress on remixing that track and decided to remix another one of my favourite tracks Roads Untraveled, which was the track I originally wanted to remix.

In August 2015, I had just finished 4 years of university studying music, working a full time job that didn’t allow me to fully commit to my music and struggling with a long haul of writers block. Near the end of August, I was woken up by my parents to the tragic news that my cousin had succumbed to his mental anguish. On that drive to be with my family, I remember melodies and song ideas coming to my head, having the urge to write/produce a song. I knew I wanted to write a song for him and push my music to be the best it could be, however I never felt my production was of quality at the time in order to do so. Throughout that week of being with all of my extended family, I had a lot of time to think. At that time, I made a promise to myself that I would commit to making others around me happy through my music, and to push myself to achieve my biggest musical goals. My cousin was big into Magic Cards, and some of his own cards were handed out to hold onto. I have two cards and had placed each one of them on both of my studio speakers ever since, in hope that he’s here helping me achieve my goals through my music. A short time after all of this is when I started working on one of my successful remixes of Who Wants To Rock by Flux Pavilion, which happened to help kick start my music career.

Today I release this remix of one of my all time favourite Linkin Park songs in honour of the inspiration Chester Bennington and the band have brought to me, my Cousin, Justin, and to everyone who has battled with any mental illness. I encourage you to donate to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
