Lionesses waltz past Matildas into a World Cup Final!
We start Episode 114 with a review of the fantastic news that England’s Lionesses are into the football World Cup Final after a 3-1 win over co-hosts Australia in Sydney. They will take on Spain on Sunday, who beat
Sweden 2-1 in their semi-final.
We then look back over the weekend’s Rugby Union internationals and the bemusing decision by the disciplinary panel to downgrade Owen Farrell’s red card in England’s win over Wales. This leaves Farrell clear to play in all of England’s World Cup games. Scotland came close to a second successive win over France, being cruelly denied by a last-minute penalty.
Leigh Leopards won their first Rugby League Challenge Cup Final in 52 years against Hull KR, and Saints won the first ever women’s final to be held at Wembley. We also have the latest from Cricket’s Hundred –
including Tammy Beaumont getting the highest individual score by a batter, as well as a dramatic finish in the London derby at The Oval. We then bring you the highlights from the final week of the UCI Cycling World Championships in Scotland, where Dame Sarah Storey won her 36th career gold.
Our guest this week is our resident football correspondent Billy Carr, who joins us at the start of the Premier League season to give his insights on life for Spurs after Harry Kane, as well as his predictions at both ends of the table for the coming season.
