Hey Lions! I don't know if it's just me, but 2024 has been a whirlwind so far. I ended the year with an episode on what the year taught me and now I'm being shown all that I avoided. The way forward is to clean up your past and there's been so much I haven't allowed myself to face.

Now, as we are in a season of being still, I have been gifted the opportunity to confront all I've been running away from. It has not been easy, but the only way through it is to do it. I appreciate being able to share this space with you all and I hope that you not only find comfort in knowing you're not alone, but that you find strength in whatever you are in your journey.

One of the hardest experiences we all have to navigate in this lifetime is loss/ grief. It is an experience that can unite us or tear us apart. It can be painful and upsetting, but it can also be healing and freeing. Today, in The Lion's Pride, I want to talk about the Lessons of Loss that I have recently learned after the recent death of a family member. The saying goes "you never know what you have until it's gone" and that is a surreal truth when it comes to the people we care about. It's unfortunate, but sometimes our greatest lessons are discovered through pain. Loss makes you stop and look at life differently. It requires you to reflect on the life you are living and to ask yourself if you are LIVING or just EXISTING.

Hey Lions! I pray 2024 has kicked off positively for you and that you are excited for all that awaits you this year. I have to be completely transparent... Today's Lionhearted Conversation was supposed to go a completely different route. However, after really sitting with myself, I realized that I needed to speak from my heart and allow whatever is holding me back to be released. In the last episode, I shared 12 Lessons that I learned in 2023 and I mentioned that 2024 would be the year of integration.... MAN words are powerful because in just 6 days into the new year I have been faced with an exam that required me to reflect on all that I learned and to apply it.

As much as I want so badly to grow and be all that I can be, I recognize that this is something to be nurtured, not forced and to continue to show up in the process. I hope that this conversation gives you the grace and insight you need on your own journey. May you know that you are doing enough and that you don't feel the need to put more pressure on yourself than life already has. Know that the universe sees your intentions and that you will be blessed and embraced for it.

Lions! It's a bittersweet feeling to watch 2023 come to an end. It's been one helluva rollercoaster. The laughter, the tears, the hard days/ sleepless nights, and all the days filled with love, gratitude and joy, I must say I am beyond grateful for this year. Despite the challenges, I can truly say I am who I am today because of every moment I experienced from this year. It was beyond eye-opening. I finally saw myself for the first time... my self that has been buried beneath my childhood pain and trauma, the people-pleasing and codependency. The low self worth and need to be validated. I found a deep love and appreciation for the person I am growing into and for that I am forever grateful. 

In today's Lionhearted Conversation, I shared a glimpse into what 2023 taught me and this honestly felt like we were just touching the surface. These 12 lessons were the ones that made the most impact, but some honorable mentions are:

-Don't be afraid to try new things

-The only opinion that matters for your life is your own

-The things that scare you the most, DO IT! 

Thank you 2023 for the light that you shed on our lives and on the world we live in. Thank you for bringing us together and for removing what is no longing serving us and our highest good. Thank you for the love, the experiences, the opportunities and everything in between.

"I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T... Do you know what that means?"

All jokes aside, I took that song too literally at my YOUNG (10 y/o) age. As an adult now, I think that being independent is a sign of strength and of power. However, true strength lies in knowing when to express how to express your weakness and being able to share your burdens with others.

Growing up in environments where the people closest to you let you down or disappointed you, it reinforces the narrative that when you need people the most they won't show up for you. What do you do when people are trying to support you, but they don't know how because you won't allow them?

That's what today's Lionhearted Conversation is all about. How being hyper-independent is a trauma response that we unknowingly glorify, especially as black women. It's time for us to drop that need to be strong and to carry our own weight and those of others on our backs and let go of our baggage and allow someone to carry it for us.

It's that time of year... The weather is changing, the sun is taking a hiatus, and my mental health.... is taking a hit.

For those of you who also struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder aka Seasonal Depression, we are in the same boat and my heart goes out to you. Life is tough on its own and having your well being drop due to a season change is not it.
