Our mothers are the foundations of our lives. Our relationships with them are complicated.
All sorts of feelings emerge when we think of our mothers. Love, anger, appreciation, gratitude, shame are a handful of the feelings that can be connected to these relationships.
Lisa Erspamer joined me in 2015 to talk about our mothers. She has written A Letter to My Mom and is the creator of the A Letter to My… series. Lisa is also the president of Unleashed Media, a multimedia production company. Prior to heading out on her own, Lisa served as the chief creative officer of OWN and the co-executive producer at The Oprah Winfrey Show.
This woman knows how to share stories.
The stories in her book A Letter to My Mom span all sorts of experiences and emotions of mother/child relationships. As I said during the interview, it's not just the Brady Bunch version.
When we think about our own stories, we can do it in a couple of steps. First, own your story. Then, you can decide who has earned the right to hear your story.
Listen in as Lisa and I talk about owning your story, the power of letter writing, the vulnerability of sharing your story, and the difference that a letter can make.
