From down-and-out to the very top!

Lisa Nichols is an international sales manager who is an energetic bright-spot in the business world. She’s got a new book deal coming out soon and is in-demand all over the world as a speaker and consultant. In this episode David asks Lisa to tell her story, from the beginning until now. Lisa said that at her lowest she was not only broke, she was broken. She was a single mom and on government assistance programs just to eat. She didn’t know to begin or how to get out of the pit she was in and realized that she’d have to take control of her own life and make the changes happen.

Lisa’s gone from there to CEO of a world-changing business, with book deals, speaking engagements and consulting opportunities that nobody would have ever dreamed she’d have. David doesn’t have to do much to draw things out of Lisa, she’s such a generous soul who’s ready to share the value that has been poured into her own life because she truly believes that “to whom much is given, much is required,” and she’s been given a lot.

David and Lisa talk for some time in this episode about the CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz and the particular, masterful things he did to create a company culture that was all about connection and service to the customer. The conversation draws out many powerful observations and teases them into applicable action steps that any listener can easily apply to their own business endeavors.

Lisa shares her own hard-learned lesson of how her own life has to be healthy in every area before she’s ready to help others. She believes that many leaders ignore this principle to the detriment of their own lives and those within their companies. She talks about Oprah Winfrey as an example of someone who has learned that lesson and has exemplified the “Dip Theory” Lisa teaches as a way to connect with people at the place they are at.
