In January 1971, two teenagers hitchhiking along Interstate 75 in central Florida spotted a body floating in Lake Panasoffkee — a remote, swampy waterway 50 miles northwest of Orlando. The victim was a young woman, badly decomposed, with a man's size 36 belt wrapped around her throat. She carried no identification. No one reported her missing. She would be known for the next five decades simply as Little Miss Lake Panasoffkee.
