Feature Presentation: D23 Film and Television Recap - Whether it’s Walt Disney Animation Studios, Avatar, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Disney Live Action, or Marvel Studios, originality is no longer part of Bob Iger’s agenda as his tenure as CEO carries on. All of his various acquisitions over the years and the work of other studios, creatives, animators, etc. are currently being used to prop up Mickey’s fortunes, while the company pivots to more and more sequels based on its various IP.

Post-Credits: Twisters Bring In Money Regardless of the Century - We’re far from 1996 but the stand-alone sequel to Twister defied tracking and made a big impact at movie theaters like so many other films have since the box office finally hit paydirt in early June. The box office is officially on a roll and the odds-on favorite to win the summer crown is just starting to slice and dice its way through the record books.

Post-Credits: Weaker Opening Weekends are Leading to Longer Legs - With the exception of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, opening weekend box office numbers have been weak leading up to the return of the Bad Boys. But despite the box office disappointing regularly for film after film on opening weekend, each film for the most part has had strong legs…with one maddening exception.

Post-Credits: A Weak End to a Strike Plagued Season - It was never going to be a massive season at the box office this Winter/Spring as the dual strikes of 2023 limited the output for 2024, but the way movie studios scheduled nearly every sure thing from the months of January through April strictly in March led to a very weak finish heading into the all important month of May. Can Zendaya finish out April strong in her first theatrical lead role before Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt officially kick off the 2024 Summer Movie Season?

Feature Presentation: Theatrical Rereleases in the Post-Strikes Era - If you haven’t noticed there have been more and more older films being put back in theaters as movie theaters deal with the impact of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. It’s somewhat similar to the period of time when movie theaters attempted to reopen during the pandemic, and there just weren’t enough new films to play throughout the day in each auditorium. Here we talk about some of the films we’ve seen during this strike-impacted period, what films we hope to see on the big screen in the future, and what incentives studios/movie theaters can provide audiences to get us off our couches and into a movie theater to watch our favorite films again (or something we’ve never seen before) the way they were meant to be seen.
