As a child of the 50's and 60's my favorite TV program was Star Trek (the original version with Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock). I loved that character both for his intelligence and for his emotional control, which is a central theme of Vulcan culture.

Maybe I saw Mr. Spock as a role model because (being a teenager at the time) my emotions were on overdrive. I felt completely out of control and I could see that my emotions were getting the better of me and causing problems.
