KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Being a mindset coach, for me, means overcoming limiting beliefs, having emotional intelligence, understanding that there are certain things you can control and that’s what you worry about, don’t worry about the things you can’t control. I help people overcome their limiting beliefs, improve their self-esteem, build up their self-confidence, and really give them the ability to go for what they want in life, and design a life they don’t need a vacation from.
  • Expectations are a dangerous thing. If you expect things to go well all the time you’re going to be highly disappointed when things don’t go as planned. You should aspire instead of expect, because you’ll put in the work to make something what you want it to be and you’ll understand that it’s not always going to go as planned.
  • Vulnerability is a strength. When you’re vulnerable and you’re willing to actually open up and share some of your story, you’re willing to let people know that you’re not actually OK and you need help, it allows you to really go out and get the support you need. We’re very sociable creatures, it’s one of the things that makes us great and different from other species. Get help and let people know how you’re feeling, do not try to take everything on yourself – it's a losing game. Have people around you (friends or family) that you can talk to who will give you an unbiased opinion, who will listen to what’s underneath what you’re saying. Challenge yourself to do something different and is challenging for you each day. When you challenge yourself and you do succeed you’ve set a new baseline for yourself and you’re not the same person you were yesterday. It takes small incremental things.
  • When you feel down you need to really identify things that bring the joy back in your life and focus on them, this will be your solitude or the thing you do to bring you back to where you want to be as a person. Every day, when you suffer from things like PTSD, they can hit you out of nowhere with no warning. When that happens you need to be mindful of how that manifests; do you feel a certain way physically when you know it’s happening? Do you know your triggers that bring you to these situations? Affirmations, journalling, singing, whatever it is, you should have some go to tool that will help your mood, help you get back up, you have to have habits when certain situations happen and you start to feel down or not like yourself.

BEST MOMENTS
‘Emotional intelligence is really just having control of your emotions, understanding empathy and compassion, really being able to regulate/calm yourself and respond to things in a rational way.’
‘Appreciating the opposite of joy makes you grateful for all the good times, makes you thankful for your partner.’
‘It’s not the outcome we need to focus on so much, it’s the journey, learning along the way, being open to what’s going on.’
‘Stay calm, understand that it is not a permanent thing, it’s temporary. When we understand that the discomfort and pain is temporary, we know we can take steps to get out of there and move forward.’

ABOUT THE HOST
Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.
