There's a great saying, that "if you're doing something you love, it isn't working," but have we ever considered doing something we love to eventually get better at the working side of our lives? Could running conventions, talking with cosplayers, and learning how to order adorable stickers to advertise your fandom site actually make you better at your job, or your future career even? I certainly think after years of being a PR-Colored Puyo, I came to be much better with people.
