“Walk a mile in their shoes” is proverb you most likely have heard before. But how often do we hear of people putting it into practice? The Lived Experience study is one example of how this idea could be applied in a medical education setting. In this study, Dr. Karen Wang paired a cohort of psychiatry residents one on one with community members living with mental illness, having them meet on a regular basis in a non-clinical setting over an extended period of time.
