What exactly is type 1 diabetes and how does it affect my life?

In this episode, Erin talks with Karolina Pawelek. Face behind popular health and wellness Youtube Channel KarolinaSays, which was created to highlight her life with type 1 diabetes. Karoline shares her journey with living with type 1 diabetes. From first being diagnosed in Poland to parents who had no idea what this condition was - to becoming a parent herself and the complications in between. She shares how diabetes almost took her life and how important it is to have a solid support system.

I was born in Poland, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1992 and moved to the United States in 1993. I went through a severe diabetes burn out in my teen years and have been through a number of serious complications and surgeries. I started my YouTube channel when I was blind after an eye surgery and I used it as a video journal and outlet. I ended up gaining almost 20,000 subscribers and getting messages from people who were going through the same things as me. My goal is to help others with diabetes to avoid the mistakes I made and the prices I had to pay.

I am engaged to my partner of almost 8 years and we have a 2.5 year old son together. We met in New Jersey, lived in Northern California and Las Vegas, now we are back in New Jersey spending time with family.
