Cate Maiolini is the London Mayor of Startuphome, the first social enterprise in the co-living space in Europe.
Cate has the talent to create freedom and funds to travel the world with very unusual jobs. If you have ever heard about Paris Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week, that’s one example of Cate’s work. She managed teams backstage for some of the most prestigious brands in fashion.
Fashion Weeks is also where Cate first learned about the co-living lifestyle. Young people from all around the world and gather into awesome cities like Paris and Milan, and a hotel can be a very lonely place. Cate saw the demand for big shared houses for a community of like-minded people and started investing into real estate. After 5 years, she’s now a recognized expert in co-living and co-housing, extending her expertise from remote workers to senior citizens in co-housing.
Eventually, Cate arrived in London, where she met Startuphome, a social enterprise focused on building co-living and communities for entrepreneurs and remote workers. They liked each other so much that Cate joined the project as Mayor of London.
From its humble beginning 4 years ago, Startuphome grew into an international spot, hosting guests from 41 countries, and managing exchange programmes with universities, angel syndicates, and investors associations.
The project was initially created to host tech startups moving to London from all around the UK and the world, and it has kept this tech/geeky side alive. For example, if you are a Startuphome member or alumni you can receive your post in London, and read it from your laptop or mobile, no matter where you are in the globe. Or, you can take photos of your receipts, upload them, and a team of accountants living as digital nomads will file your bookkeeping at a fraction of the cost The accountants can live on a beach in Thailand as digital nomads, and you – well - you don’t have to think about admin, bureaucracy and taxes. Win-win!
