Howard Weaver was born in 1950 and educated in Anchorage public schools. A career journalist, his reporting on the construction of the Alaska pipeline helped the Anchorage Daily News earn the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service award in 1976. Later, as the paper’s editor, Weaver led a newsroom team that won a second Pulitzer in 1989 for its “People in Peril” series on the plight of Alaska Natives. In 1995 he moved to California to assume a leadership position at McClatchy Newspapers, where he was named Vice President, News in 2001. Weaver and his wife, Barbara Hodgin, currently reside in Sacramento and the Sierra foothills.
