In this episode Jesse and I talk lots about our privilege. We’ve done so quietly for a long time in many ways, trying to figure out how to be with ourselves and be ourselves. We are tender hearted, caring, powerful human beings who want connection and to live with integrity. We are also both resourced, cisgender men, expensively educated, and have white skin. We believe that we have each chosen to be here at this time in history, in these unique bodies, with these exact experiences, and are committed to living our souls purpose, our destiny, our unique life that only we can live. We want to do that with aliveness and consciousness.
You are invited into our exploration of the important territory of how to live with our privilege and resource.
We decided that it’s time for us to bring our voices forth and see what happens. The Beyond is not about having answers or being right, it’s about crawling around in the muck, feeling deeply, bringing curiosity, and being willing to be vulnerable as we find our way. I was powerfully impacted this week by a story from Bayo Akomolafe, who shared the wisdom that now is not a time for creation, there is no way for us to know what to create or what structures, paths, etc, will or should look like. He suggested that the work of today is to sit in the unraveling, to be in the discomfort of apocalypse, and enjoy the mystery.
Jesse and I are attempting to be in this beautiful, powerful, uncomfortable unraveling. We are curious about the terrain that exists beyond privilege. Today we ask, How do we get beyond, or find a different relationship with, or become aware of the patriarchal energies that surround us like the air we breathe.
Jesse brings such deep intelligence and care to these conversations. If you haven’t yet followed his substack, I recommend it. jessekjohnson.substack.com
So there we have it, our attempt to be in this beautiful, powerful, uncomfortable unraveling. Sharing about the terrain that exists beyond privilege. Hopefully we are now a little further beyond, in that different relationship with, becoming aware of the patriarchal energies that surround us like the air we breathe.
Here are my take aways from this episode.
