Living Loved-A lesson from Rachel and Leah

(Génesis 29-30) Rachel was the “beloved wife” of Jacob. Even though Jacob had worked 14 years to marry her and loved her deeply, she still felt unworthy because she could not bear children in comparison to Leah who bore many. In Leah’s world children equal led worth. As I read this story I want to hug Rachel and tell her “Don’t you see? Jacob loves you! God loves you! You aren’t defined by the offspring you can or can’t produce!” How many times do we live comparing, resentful, unworthy, and tired of striving because we try to earn something we already have? Time is wasted. Our abilities, the world’s view, what we have or don’t have, DO NOT DEFINE US. Listen sister, they DO NOT DEFINE US. Rachel’s worth may have fluctuated in the eyes of her world, but her true worth never changed in the eyes of her Creator. And the same is true for us. We are Loved and we are worthy! Not because of what we do or what we have but because of what God has already done in Christ. How different would our life look if we lived loved everyday?
