Living with Hope
Speaker: Rev. Sam Chan
Scripture: Romans 5:1-5
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.—Romans 15:13
I. If I Have Hope
1. I can continue …
2. I can live with it …
3. I can restart again …
4. I can take rest
5. I can say “NO” to temptation
II. What Is Hope?
1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.—Romans 5:1-5
1. Real Peace – “Peace with God” (v.1)
2. Abundant Grace – “gained access”. (v.2A)
3. New Purpose – “The Glory of God” (v.2B)
4. New Meaning in Suffering – “because we know” (v.3)
5. Love in Hearts Always – “poured out by the Holy Spirit” (v.5)
III. How Do I get This Hope?
1. What are you facing now? Problem
2. Are you learning how to wait expectantly? Patience
3. Is your problem taking you to a new purpose? Character Development
4. Are you practicing this with your church family?
• God wants us to express, foster, deepen, embody and show hope together to build confidence and bless others.
If I really have hope…
1. I can keep my life clean (2 Timothy 2:21)
2. I can keep my eyes open (Psalm 105:4)
3. I can keep my purpose firm (Acts 13:36)
4. I can keep my heart grateful (I Thessalonians 5:16-18)
