The classic book, The Imitation of Christ, speaks of the importance of beginning with the end in mind. That is, when you’re alone, think deeply and often about the day of your death. In particular, think: How do you want to meet God? To do this, not once, but as a habit of life, creates a God-given sense of excitement, purpose, and life mission.
Yet how many people never give serious thought to the end of their life. Oh, they think they do so—they give thought, often excessively, to the way they would like to finish their years in some supposedly blissful retirement. Then, they tell themselves, I’ll do what I really want, including getting serious about God, and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Granted, “We must wait for all good things.” Yet why wait until the body is frail and the mind may not be as sharp?
Pity the man or woman who never decides to live, whose chief excitement is daydreaming, who never dares to passionately pursue God-inspired and God-honoring plans now, today, this next year, the next five years, before it’s too late.
What a great example my own Dad has been in this regard – Luis Palau. He is still faithfully proclaiming the Good News. I am so inspired! Now is the time to start reaching your world for Jesus Christ.
This is Andrew Palau.
