Loadshedding: Is there a constitutional precedence case for public goods & services?

 This week, the North Gauteng High Court has been hearing the court application on the constitutionality of loadshedding. The group of eleven organizations that have made a multi-stakeholder court application against several government departments including the Presidency surrounding the energy crisis. The group has called for schools, essential services such as hospital as well as clinic facilities,

telecommunication towers for network and other public goods to be exempt from loadshedding.

The group says that there is a human cost of loadshedding and that the poor are most affected by the energy crisis. The group wants this court action expose the decision-making by government departments as well as the State-Owned Enterprise. The group wants to also propose solutions that will ensure the constitutional mandate of the uninterrupted electricity is fulfilled.
