Last week Monday we started a conversation about sex work and the question of how the South African legal system should respond to the industry and related activities. This is because tomorrow (Tuesday 31st of January) is the closing date for public comment around the Sexual Offences and Related Matters Amendment Bill of 2022 that seeks to repeal legislation that criminalizes sex work. Some of the issues that came out of last week’s discussion were around the language used to define sex workers and also the labelling of the profession. So for part 2 of this discussion, let’s welcome some of the people who conducted research on this issue and what they have discovered.
