Lenny Birt is a conservationist in the Central Savannah River Area of South Carolina. He started the group, "Friends of the Rapids" with the intention of cleaning up the river while bringing awareness to challenges facing the water, plants, and wildlife. Through hard work, perseverance, and help from others, Mr. Birt was able to get Act 177 signed into law, which "protects South Carolina's native turtles and other reptiles and amphibians."
