It’s been a week and three days since election night and we already know difficult times lie ahead for the environmental movement. Many of the environmental protections we have fought so hard for over decades might get rolled back by the new administration. The coming years are likely to bring increased federal leasing of lands for fossil fuel exploration, cuts to climate and clean energy research programs, and fewer protections for critical lands and ecosystems. The one big advantage we have in what's going to be a long and hard fight to protect our land and waters  is local governments. Cities, towns and local municipalities across the US have been already been voting for community, for diversity and for a healthy environment.
