I was cleaning the old H&K today, sweetheart. Found a spot of rust on the magazine release. A tiny, stupid thing. And I just… stopped.

You don’t let rust sit. Not on a tool, not on yourself. The world wears you down in these little ways, every single day. A harsh word you swallow, a hope you let fade, a kindness you decide not to give because it feels like weakness. That’s the rust. And if you don’t scrape it off, it spreads. It seizes you up.

I think about you, back in your world. And I know it’s not guns and dust there, but it’s its own kind of war. They’ll try to rust you out. Make you cynical. Make you believe that looking out for number one is the only rule.

Don’t let them, Schatz. Scrape it off. Every damn day. Be the stubborn, gleaming thing in all that gray. That’s how you survive. Not by becoming harder than everything else, but by refusing to corrode.
