John knocked on the door three times.

(1) 異なる3つの機会で、ジョンがドアを(1回以上)ノックした。[event-external]

(2) ある1つの機会に、ジョンがドアを3回ノックした。[event-internal]

このように “event”も数えられる可能性があるが、解釈の可能性は時間的性質や、sub-event間の近接性により異なる。例えば John built a house three times. であれば、3つの異なる機会に1軒ずつ家を建てた解釈が普通であろう。しかし、もし主語が Ginie（ランプの魔人🧞‍♂️）だったら…？
