Once known for Hollywood stars, bourbon, and coal; Americans now boast some of the highest rates of loneliness in the world. We examine the three types of loneliness leading to pathology. Some forms of social isolation are easy to deal with, and others appear to be deeply enmeshed in American life. The plague of isolation, boredom, and loneliness predate the pandemic and will likely stay with us for a long time. Loneliness is a signal to act and do something constructive with your life.
