Longing For God & Our Eternal Dwelling

Listen Later

When you place your life in Jesus—trusting, having faith—you are made a new creation. The wonder of this (that i’d like to talk about today) is the freedom from condemnation and judgment:

John 5 - “…whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (ESV)

You are free, justified, and made whole. While this does not mean you will never sin, there is nothing to fear concerning your Savior’s return, for He has washed away all your wrongdoing.

The Longing for Renewal

Despite our new life in Christ, we still feel a deep yearning for the world to be set right. As the Apostle Paul speaks about (see verses below), our soul, heart, and mind are longing for that new creation—the final renewing of all things. We desire justice because we know that Jesus is good, He is with us, and He makes all things right.

The Return of the King

Jesus is the King and the Lord. He will return to judge the nations, but the timing remains a mystery—no one knows the time it will happen, only the Father, as is clear from Scripture.

New Creation (Apostle Paul’s Perspective)

* Romans 8:19, 22-23: For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God... For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves... groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

* 2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Romans 8

For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies

2 Corinthians 5

For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we will not be found naked... For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
