The inevitable happens- time moves on and we grow older. Instead of our own little children surrounding us, grandchildren take their place. Each new generation lives in a new age of technology, not realizing the changes the generations before theirs has seen- and improved for them.
The cycle of life has changed the prairie also. The endless waves of tall native prairie grass have been reduced to uniform rows of grain crops. The curves of the river had shifted over the decades, eroded by both man and nature. The majestic prairie has been tamed over time.

Loved it!
This is the first book by this author that I've read and I must say I am impressed. I really hated to see this book end, since I had gotten so interested in the main character's life....from the time she immigrated from Sweden until she moves to town, leaving the farm that she, her husbands and their children have built from nothing. These are the last days on the farm.
The book is written by an author who writes with love in her words.
A heartwarming story of a family homesteading in Kansas
I enjoyed reading "Looking Back". This heart warming book describes life on the prairie in Kansas when the family first settled there as homesteaders. The family photos are interesting and add to the story as well. I enjoyed reading about their self sufficiency and the sense of community these farmers had. Kajsa literally looks back over the 51 years describing every day chores as well as life changing incidents that affected her life both joyous and devastating.
Good
Interesting to find out what family went thru in those days
Love it!
This book is the last book of the series Butter in the Well. I have grown to love this family. This book answers your questions about the family.
"Looking Back: is a great way to spend some time!
This "Butter in the Well" series presents a wonderful, entertaining look at life among the determined, capable people who settled America's breadbasket! Linda Hubalek has a way with the characters that shows respect and understanding and a certain amount of pride since these fictionalized accounts seem to have stemmed from her family members' journals and memorabilia. I enjoyed it very much!
