I recently spoke at a church service in central Oregon. Afterwards a young woman came up to me in tears and said that she really connected with my testimony. She’d been asking God to speak to her. She’d attended church as a child but then went off into the world and never returned. She described herself as “very spiritual and open minded” yet she didn’t have peace. She was involved in all sorts of spiritual exercises and self-help practices but her soul was troubled.
St. Augustine said, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you.” The reason this woman didn’t have peace was because she didn’t know Jesus. We can busy ourselves with all sorts of things and try to find rest for our souls. But, until we come to Jesus Christ, it will be futile. I was honored to tell this young lady about the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ on the cross. What a joy it was to point her to her maker!
Who in your life is looking for peace? Who needs to hear the story of what God has done in you? Jesus is “the way the truth and the life.” There is nothing better than pointing searching, anchorless souls to Him. Today, ask God to open your eyes and show you whom you can tell of His love. Searching people are there. But, it’s up to us to step up in obedience and tell them the Good News.
