Looking Is Not Seeing - By Sokuzan in Brooklyn NY - Sunday, June 10, 2018 - http://sokukoji.org

“Looking” is glancing around looking at things coming and going, often based on the agenda of the present moment, where we’re going what we are doing and what we are trying to get done, mixed in with apparent memories, thoughts of the future, imaginations…. those are making a great deal of salad right in the midst of our perception. Nothing wrong with blending but when the motivation behind the apprehension is hope and fear, it leads to more suffering. “Seeing” is that whatever arises in consciousness is just that. It does not lead to something else. We are not aiming for some kind of artificial equanimity, a sense of presence. This is spiritual materialism. If you think you are in the present moment, you are deceiving yourself.
