Solomons Island went from a small coastal village to a bustling area during the war and when the oyster cannery opened.

Area shipwrights built vessels known as "bugeyes," fossils from millions of years ago can be found here, and there is true pride in the maritime industry and culture in this area with annual celebrations, museums, and local culture.
